MY CURRENT BEAUTY FAVOURITES – SPRING 2017

Since it has been a while, I thought I would share my current beauty favourites with you. Let’s start with some new additions to my skincare routine. My skin is sensitive and dry so that’s where I’m coming from with this. Last year I experienced some issues with my skin, it was breaking out a lot more than usual and at some point I thought I could even have acne which I’ve never had before. My skin has improved a lot in these near months and the breakouts on my cheeks have disappeared almost entirely. Such a relieve, it’s super hard to find high-coverage foundation not meant for oily skin. So what cleared my skin? Not diet, it’s as unhealthy as ever. (Although, I’m going to change that too, I’m sick of feeling bloated and tired all the time.) I think better skincare has helped my skin. I exfoliate my face gently once a week, I take time to properly remove my makeup and I make sure my skin gets the hydration it needs.

I like to use one product to remove my makeup and one to cleanse my skin. I use Hylamide High-Efficiency Face Cleaner mainly as a makeup remover. It melts away any makeup I’ve on, even mascara. Some makeup removers irritate my skin but not this one. Hylamide is one the brands by Deciem (the parent company also behind The Ordinary) and their products are available on their website. Mádara Purifying Foam* is a gentle face cleanser. It has that “organic” scent, but it’s mild and I don’t really notice it anymore. This cleanser is effective, but not drying at all.

Where do I even begin with The Ordinary? There’s not much to not like about this all-about-the-science brand with very reasonable prices. Needles to say, when they launched their Colours range, I ran to place an order and I ended up buying five foundations. #SorryNotSorry. I’ll get back to you on those when they arrive. My favourite products I’ve tried are the Buffet serum, Advanced Retinoid 2% and Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. Especially the Advanced Retinoid 2% has improved my skin’s texture a lot. And it’s only 9,80 euros! Have you tried anything from this brand? What would you recommend?

I know what you’re thinking, is there anything better than TangleTeezer? Well, there is and it’s called Wet Brush Pro. While I do still love my TT’s, I’m very excited to have a detangling brush with a handle again. No more flying hair brushes! Has this happened to you? It happens to me all the time with my TT’s! This brush can be used both on wet and dry hair. It doesn’t look anything special, but it’s my new favourite brush. Evo Lockdown Smoothing Treatment* is a lightweight leave-in treatment for frizzy hair. I apply this evenly to my damp hair after washes. This adds shine and smoothens my hair. My hair can look very dry and it doesn’t really ever get super greasy. I use a hair oil as well, but I only apply oils to the ends to prevent my hair looking greasy.

Mádara Hemp Hemp Lip Conditioning Balm* is hydrating and super comfortable on the lips. This has a funny scent, but I don’t mind it, it’s not strong. I like that this comes in a tube. I use this in the evenings and then an other lip balm in the morning. I’m extra like that. 🤷‍♀️ I didn’t really want to wear too much makeup on my cheeks when they were breaking out, but lately I’ve been enjoying getting back to wearing blush and bronzer. Bo-Ho Green Makeup Terra Cotta 03 Terre De Gascogne* is maybe a bit too dark for my skin tone, but I can get away with it if I’m careful. This blends so nicely on the skin and has a beautiful shine that is not at all glittery. There’s a lighter shade available so I might go and get that.

My perfume favourite at the moment is not just one but two perfumes together. I discovered that layering perfumes is a thing only this spring. Actually it was at the launch event for the new Terre De Lumiére EdT* by L’Occitane. I was talking about how I really like the Verveine EdT by L’Occitane and someone told me that I could try using Verveine with other perfumes to add that bite I like to sweeter scents. Genius! How did I not think of this? I could describe Terre De Lumiére as “warm”, it’s the perfect scent for those who like their rich and sweet scents.
